Scientific Name: Elettaria cardamomum
Botany: Cardamom is a herbaceous plant with rhizome, it belongs to the Cyingiberaceae family. Its fruit, shaped like a green capsule, contains the aromatic seeds inside, it is widely used as a spice. It grows in hot and humid climates, between 900 and 1500 meters of altitude. Its multiple whitish flowers are continually renewed and give a long, oval fruit, with three compartments full of highly aromatic seeds.
Origin and History: Native to Asia. Cardamom was already used in Asia by ancient cultures as a medicine and as a spice for at least two thousand years before it was first distilled in Europe in the 16th century. The seeds are dried before distillation. This plant remains an important element of traditional medicine in India and China.
Aromatic Biochemistry:
1,8-cineole, alpha terpenyl acetate, Limonene, linalool and geraniol
Therapeutic Properties: Digestive tonic (stomach, eupeptic and carminative), antispasmodic, neurotropic, anticatarrhal, expectorant, analgesic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, carminative, nervine, pectoral, stomachic, antibacterial and antiseptic.
Therapeutic Uses: Heaviness of the stomach, indigestion, aerophagia, dyspepsia, spasmodic colitis, intestinal cramps, flatulence, halitosis, constipation, bronchial congestion, heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmia) and nausea.
Energetic Aromatherapy: Linked to the Manipura Chakra of the solar plexus, its color is yellow, its element is fire.
Cardamom essential oil releases emotions, stimulates and revitalizes the body.
How to Use:
- By Diffusion: 5 to 10 drops in a diffuser of your preference.
- On the Skin: 1 drop of essential oil + 3 drops of vegetabel oil.
- Oral Administration: 2 drops of essential oil mixed with honey, 3 times a day before eating, in case of digestive disorders.
Employment Precautions:
Flammable. Oral use for medical indication. Keep out of the reach of children. Avoid contact with the eyes. Not recommended for children under 3 years of age, and pregnant or lactating women.
