Origin and History: For 5,000 years, lavender has had different popular uses, with traditions that have passed down generations, such as the comforting lavender sachets, which manage to scent cabinets and homes with their pleasant clean smell, while driving away moths and insects. There are numerous testimonies throughout the centuries in different books about its uses in medicine, grooming and beauty . Since its use by Egyptians and Greeks for perfumes, by Romans in their baths, throughout history it has played a very versatile role in perfumery, natural medicine and even in the kitchen. It is originally from France (Alps, Vaucluse and Dròme). It is mainly found in the warmer regions of the Mediterranean in alkaline soils. The use of lavender reached a peak during the Baroque, in the 17th and 18th centuries glove boxes and perfumers were already regulated professions and the glove boxers of Grasse used it to give a more pleasant aroma to the leather with which they worked.Legend has it that it helped them get rid of the plague and that they themselves suggested to the rest of the citizens that they always carry lavender branches with them to protect them from the disease. In 1920, René Maurice Gattefossé, a French perfumer chemist from a family that owned a perfume company, set out to rediscover the miraculous properties of plants. It is said that one day when he was working, Gattefossé badly burned his hand and dipped it in lavender essential oil. The burn healed quickly with no blisters. Thus, it can be considered that from his studies the so-called Modern Aromatherapy was born.
