Scientific Name: Santalum album
Botany:Sandalwood is a shrub that belongs to the Sandaláceae family. It can reach up to 5 m in height, has persistent leaves and small pink flowers, under its reddish brown bark hides the precious yellow wood of sandalwood. The highest quality sandalwood variety is the one that comes from Mysore in South India, the sandalwood tree must grow at least 40-80 years.
Origin and History: Originally from India, sandalwood has been used for several millennia in cabinetmaking, perfumery, in rituals, as incense and in traditional medicine. In Ayurvedic and Tibetan medicine, sandalwood is credited with the power to touch the soul deeply and achieve inner peace. Hindus draw the third eye with sandalwood paste, applying a dot located around the middle of the forehead area. 4,000 years ago, sandalwood was already used in places like Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Many temples were built with its wood and the Egyptians used the oil in embalming.

Therapeutic Properties: Antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent, soothing, healing, diuretic, emollient, nervine, pectoral, restorative, sedative, tonic.
Therapeutic Uses: Cough, sore throat, heavy legs, swelling, cystitis, vaginal infections, scars, insomnia, anxiety, nervous tension, nervous exhaustion, depression.
Energetic Aromatherapy:
The Sandalwood of India is associated with the navel chakra Svadhisthana. Its color is orange.
How to Use:
- By Diffusion: 5 to 10 drops in a diffuser of your preference.
- On the Skin: 2 drops of essential oil + 4 drops of vegetable oil.
- Oral Administration: 2 drops of essential oil mixed with honey, 3 times a day, for anxiety and depression.
Employment Precautions:
Flammable. Oral use for medical indication. Keep out of the reach of children. Avoid contact with the eyes. Not recommended for children under 3 years of age, and pregnant or lactating women.
